We all want to get our videos seen by as many people as possible, and the easiest way to do that is by employing what has become known as Video SEO. The truth of the matter is, it’s really not all that hard to get first page rankings for your videos if you follow the basics, and soon find yourself reaping the benefits that a page one ranking in YouTube or Google (or both!) brings.
So to get going toward making that happen let’s take a peek at 5 tips that will help you rank your videos better.
Create a great video - The best way to have your video rank well is to create the best one you can. This will in and of itself generate views, links, like, subscribes and embeds, and could go viral. Don’t settle for less than excellent videos.
Use specific keywords - You need to do keyword research for your videos just like you would for any other piece of content. Aim for keywords that are receiving least 300 requests a month, and be sure you use them in the title, description, tags and filename, among other places.
Optimize your titles and descriptions - Using the aforementioned keywords in these is key, as well as being sure to include any links you’d like people to visit at the beginning of your description, plus the YouTube video link at the end. This is so that if anyone uses your content, you’ll be linked back to.
Get social signals - A major part of ranking videos these days is the presence of social signals. Shares, views, embeds, channel subscribes and comments all play a large part in where your video ends up. Do not artificially inflate these with fake views and comments, as these are easily discovered and will not help your cause.
Get links - Oftentimes you will not need to do this last step, if you have done the previous ones, but in the case of hard to rank for keywords, you might need to build backlinks to your video. Again, strive to do this organically and not artificially, or it might have the opposite effect of what you’ve wanted.
